For your convenience, everything written about the filtering is on this page.
Far out, in the uncharted backwaters of Her Majesty's Government lies an insignificant little blue-green LEA that controls an institution that has the audacity to call itself a school. As of Tuesday, 23rd November, 1999, the Course of Justice has been Averted by this so called organisation when they filtered (read: censored) Lab6. By doing this, they restrict the right of free speech to us, and to anybody who is represented by us. This Orwellian state of affairs sees them controlling the press, controlling the material that They don't want You to see, and allowing their totalitarian propaganda to brainwash the masses to Their Ways. Rise up against this oppression! Let them know that you are Highly Displeased! Filtering illegal sites is fine by us, but when they censor sites such as Lab6 that aren't illegal, aren't libellous, aren't blatantly offensive and aren't going along with their views, it makes a mockery of freedom of expression.
Way back on March 10th, 1999, the precursor to Lab6 was taken down because of it's questionable content - a decision we agree with entirely. HOWEVER, the site returned within a week, rewritten in a different style so as to not offend anybody. AND OFFEND NOBODY IT DID. Later on, somebody from The Great Satan of Schools attempted to break in to the site, which resulted in us taking it down again. When consulted, our legal assistants suggested we do nothing for the moment, as accessing the site was not officially an offense. This is where the EULA came from, or rather, this is where the necessity for the EULA came from. The EULA gives us legal protection against people viewing the site when we don't want them to.
Much later on, in the first weeks of November, Lab6 was found and deemed worthy of investigation. Several conversations hinted strongly at legal action against us (due to possible libelous content), but none has come. Why not? Because we're the ones who should be suing them. We have detailed and comprehensive logs of their access to Lab6 which constitutes bulletproof evidence of them attempting to gain unauthorised access to our personal information in Lab6, as well as the personal data of other users. We are currently considering legal action of our own.
Sometime in 2000 - In the old news section for January 2000 on Wednesday the 5th we noted it would be "extremely good if you get caught looking at it, as it may force them to filter the word "Lab6" from the school computers, cutting out vast sections of scientific information." The irony is, this did happen, and so any IFL based school will not only be unable to browse anything with Lab6 in the URL, but also any emails with "Lab6" in them will be filtered for "banned or offensive content".
So "Lab6" really is a four letter word.
